caring sphinxI am afraid anyone who thinks that they are maintenance free because of the fact that they have no fur is very mistaken. This same fact makes them need a wipe down each morning with a damp cloth and to be dried properly with a towel. Having no fur makes the natural oil which is produced by the cat stay put on the skin. Their ears are also in need of constant cleaning as they to seem to produce a lot of waxy substance. I also like to wipe the area around the eyes with a cotton wool pad dipped in rose water. Being as cold as it is I dress them up in little coats to make them a bit warmer. The heater is switched off as soon as I leave the room because they run around so much and are so naughty when I am not present that I am scared they might run into it.

Their skin is exactly like ours and sores will scare the skin. The skin is very warm and it is important it stays this way, if the skin ever gets cold it could mean that the cat is sick. It is really wrinkly but so soft. The eyes are almondy shaped and are very big as are the ears. The body of a Sphinx should be tall with well formed muscles. The tail is very long and thin. The body parts which impress me most are the hands and feet. They are webbed but at the same time human like. When they want your attention they touch you with their paws as if to say I am here. They are attention seekers thus making them the perfect pet for some one who is at home a lot. The fact that their body heat is slightly higher makes them eat quiet a lot and should be fed a high carbohydrate diet. This is needed to keep them warm. It is also important that they are not left in the sun as their skin burns, not left in the cold because they freeze just like us really.

Of course just like all the cat breeds they need some toys to entertain themselves, a scratching post will do wonders to save you having to change your furniture, and yes the best thing of all is they use a litter tray saving you the hassle of having to wipe up after them.
